How to Use Reed Diffusers Welcome to the wonderful world of Aromatherapy! One of the easiest ways to benefit from aromatherapy is to use a diffuser to help spread essential oils into the air - one very simple and long lasting way is through the use of a Reed Diffuser. Wondering what a reed diffuser is? Well, it is quite simply a container filled with oils and reed sticks used to wick the fragrance into the air. Many of these types of diffusers look like the one pictured here.
It is common to find glass aromatherapy bottles of all shapes, sizes and colors. Most bottles are clear so that you can see the color of the oil, or at least the oil level so that you know when it is time to refill. You could also use a ceramic bottle if desired, however it is difficult to see the level of the oil in an opaque container. Plastic bottles are not recommended, as some essential oils will break down the plastic over time. This is not desired.
Using a Reed diffuser in the home or office has quickly become quite popular in the U.S. in recent years and they make the perfect gift. All you need is a glass bottle - usually 6 or 8 ounces in size, reed sticks- usually between 12-15 inches (this will be determined by the size of the bottle), specially blended oils for the best wicking properties.
Many stores sell these items as a kit. Some people like to customize thier look by adding colorfull glass beads or glass stones to the bottom of the contianer. This can give the reed diffuser a new look while helping to keep the reeds in place.
A Reed diffuser can be used safely for up to a month without the risk of injury from flames. They do not use heat or fire to diffuse the fragrance into the air, the specially designed reeds wick the fragrance from the base of the bottle and feed it through to the top of the reed. These types of diffusers are also easy to use and maintain. Most glass containers are washable and some are even dishwasher safe. Reed wicks some in varing lengths and are usually sold in bundles. Some wholesale suppliers like 100% Pure Essential Oils sell them in 100 to 5,000 count bundles.
These colorful and stylish diffusers add a touch of elegance to every environment. One very nice place to put a reed diffuser is on the entryway table. Nothing greets guests quite as nicely as a breath of inviting aroma to welcome them to your home. Reed Diffusers are very economical and would be a nice addition to any space - so changing the mood in a room is as changing your fragrance. In fact, every room can have it's own signature scent that will last for several weeks with the flip of the reeds.
To Use A Reed Diffuser, fill the glass container about two thirds full with oil. Add 5-10 reeds depending on how strong you would like your aroma. Let the reeds soak up the oil. This usually takes a few minutes. Then remove the reeds from the glass container, flip them over (slowly) and place them back into the glass container filled with oil so that the fragranced end of the reeds is sticking out of the bottle.
Flip the reeds every time you want to refresh the fragrance.
The evaporation rate of the oils themselves is relatively slow so a container with 6 ounces of oil will last anywhere between one and three months. The reeds are not reusable, so be sure to keep a bundle on hand. Sit back, relax and enjoy your wonderfully fragrant home!
